Must know Information About The Utility Of An Electrochemical Cell

You may not familiar with the term Electrochemical Cell but use it in your daily life. In easy words, this cell is the battery that you use to generate your gadgets. Your battery cell contains chemicals that help to produce electrical energy. The cell converts chemical energy into electricity.

Types of the electrochemical cells

The electrochemical cells are of two types:

  • Voltaic cell: The voltaic cell or galvanic cell converts energy into electricity. You can find this cell type in disposable AA batteries and lithium-ion batteries.
  • Electrolytic cell: The electrolytic cell converts electricity into energy. You may find this type of electrochemical cells in purifying copper and electroplating.

Electrochemistry Cell and Cyclic Voltammetry

It is designed for the use of cyclic voltammetry. High-quality reference electrodes such as Ag Agcl Reference Electrode are suitable for cyclic voltammetry in electrochemistry cells. This cell contains three types of electrodes: working electrodes, counter electrodes, and reference electrodes.

Cyclic voltammetry is a powerful and effective electrochemical method to inspect the reduction and oxidation process of molecular species. Silver/silver chloride or Ag Agcl Reference Electrode is often used to measure the current that develops in the cell under conditions where voltage is more than predicted by the Nernst equation.

This method of cyclic voltammetry is simple, sensitive, speedy, and less expensive. All these features lead to a wide range of applications.

Several Uses of Electrochemical cells

You can find the uses of Electrochemical cells in:

  • Metallurgy in electrorefining and electrowinning metals.
  • AA batteries, lithium-ion batteries, thermal batteries, and silver oxide batteries.
  • Transportation, power backup applications, material handling, and power plants.
