What are the other electrodes widely used, apart from carbon electrodes?
We all have heard of carbon electrodes in different electrochemical cells, but besides these electrodes, there is yet another that is used on a wide basis. This is Pt counter electrode, which performs an important role in the electrochemical reaction. There are reasons for which it is so much in demand. They are acids, solvents, and oxidation resistant, and hence they are so much in use. In some electrode setup, besides the main electrode, there is another called counter electrode. This is the electrode that supplies an input potential to the main electrode. The circuit gets completed with help of these electrodes, and a consistent current flow is assured. Other than this electrode, there is one more that is widely used in many devices. This electrode is called calomel electrode .
