A pt counter electrode is basically used for some electrochemical techniques in standard electrochemical cells. These are used in many areas in the market because first it is oxidation, acids and solvents resistant and second it is available at a low rate. These counter electrodes or auxiliary electrodes offers input potential to a working electrode. They complete the circuit and permit the current to flow. Another electrode type that is famously known is a calomel electrode . These are used as a reference electrode in corrosion studies and this is because they are available at a low cost. These can either be used as a cathode or an anode and is dependent on the nature of other electrodes in the cell.
